Practical support for a positive transition to school - families are welcome to connect before their child starts at Currajong.

My name is Nathan, and I am the Family Support Coordinator supporting children and families from Prep to year 2 at Currajong State School.
I’m born and bred in Mount Isa, on Kalkadoon Country, but I’m proud to now call Townsville home and feel strongly connected to the local community.
I have experience supporting children and families from diverse cultural and community backgrounds. My role is to listen, understand what may be making school difficult and work alongside families, school staff and services to find practical solutions.
The role of a Family Support Coordinator (FSC) includes:
- acting as intermediaries between the family, the school and external agencies
- facilitating access to support services
- fostering a strong family-school partnership
- ensuring students have a smooth transition into the school environment
How can I support your family?
- Enrolment and starting school - help with forms, documents and preparing for a smooth transition
- Getting ready for Prep - support with uniforms, school supplies, routines and school-readiness needs
- Barriers to learning - work through challenges affecting attendance, engagement or participation
- Connecting with services - link families with suitable community, health and family-support services
- Family-school partnership - help families communicate with the school and coordinate support with relevant agencies
